GET targets female senior secondary students studying high-level mathematics and offers them tutoring support, and exposure to engineering activities, courses, role models and careers.
Pilbara Minerals is passionate about enhancing education outcomes, and the site tour was an excellent opportunity for the students to help them gain a better understanding of our operations and what life on site is like.
On arrival students were greeted by our COO, Dale Henderson and Operations Manager, Simon Coyle, where they were given an introduction and project overview before a tour of the mine pit.
The students learned about the important role that lithium plays in battery production and the transition to a low-carbon energy supply.
The day wrapped up with dinner at the Carlindi Camp, and an overnight stay in a donga. This was a great opportunity for the girls to experience FIFO life, which included waking up bright and early to pack their crib (lunch) for the day ahead.
On the second day the students visited the processing plant and had the opportunity to spend time with, and ask questions, about the challenges females face in the mining industry, the importance of work/life balance, as well as the career opportunities provided to female employees.
Pilbara Minerals was grateful to be able to host a group of such incredible young women and we wish them well in their future endeavours.
