We are proud to be strengthening our connection with local communities through a new partnership with Volunteering WA, empowering our people to contribute directly to meaningful causes across Western Australia.
As part of our aspirations to create a future where the wellbeing of the community is enhanced, the PLS Volunteer Program offers all employees one paid day of volunteer leave each year. Aligned with our core values of Shaping Tomorrow and One Team, the initiative recognises that lasting change begins with collective, hands-on action.
Supporting WA’s iconic wildlife
In April, the Environment and Land Access team became the first to participate in the Program, volunteering at the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre. The Centre plays a vital role in rescuing and rehabilitating Western Australia’s endangered black cockatoos.
The team rolled up their sleeves to prepare aviaries and lay fresh sand – simple yet impactful work that supports ongoing conservation efforts. A highlight for the team was witnessing the cockatoos learning to fly again in the final stage of their rehabilitation journey.
Lending a hand to Grandcarers WA
More recently, staff from our Sustainability and Corporate Affairs teams supported Grandcarers WA, an organisation that assists grandparents who unexpectedly become primary carers for their grandchildren.
The team cleared overgrown gardens, removed debris, and restored outdoor spaces at the centre. The transformation was immediate and deeply appreciated by Grandcarers WA, who were thrilled to welcome families back into the revitalised space.
Building lasting community impact
Through our partnership with Volunteering WA, PLS has made it easier for our Great People across both Perth and our Pilgangoora Operation to participate in local volunteering efforts. This collaboration reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible business and community engagement.
Chief Sustainability Officer, Sandra McInnes highlighted the significance of the program.
“It was rewarding to experience first-hand how small contributions, when made with care and intention, can deliver lasting impact for the people and organisations we support. Volunteering allows us to connect with our purpose, strengthen our teams and engage directly with the broader community.”
Through this initiative, we are proud to bring our values to life, working as one team to shape a better tomorrow.
As the PLS Volunteer Program grows, we look forward to seeing more teams step into the community to create positive, lasting change as we help power a better future for Western Australia.
